Due to the car legislation in Korea, infants under the age of 6 are required to use a car seat when boarding public transportation. Also, when parents board public transportation, they have difficulty carrying and installing the bulky car seat. For this reason, some petitions have emerged. This study aims to design a vestshaped car seat which is easy to carry and store.

The safety certification standards for car seats include various considerations. Through a review of these standards, design factors to be considered in the car seat development process were extracted. These factors are categorized into overall appearance, the structure related to components and adjustment mechanisms of the car seat, belts, buckles, materials, and labeling requirements.

- We conducted research on convertible car seats that can be used for both Group I and II. Also, we focus on the car seats which is portable.

- We examined 14 different convertible car seats and were able to categorize them into three types based on weight, structure, and materials.

- Children under the age of 6 must wear a car seat, so we selected the target audience to be the I and II groups, which are under the age of 6.

To identify areas for improvement and advantages, we conducted usability test(focusing on Interview) targeting two vest-type car seat products(Ride Safer Gen 5 and GoKiz). 8 children aged 4 to 8 and 6 parents are participanted.​​​​​​​

Based on brainstorming and study mock-ups, we developed three design concepts before the final design derivation. These three design concepts are referred to as Concept A, B, and C. One common feature of these concepts is the application of a point color to the area where the product attaches to the safety belt, aiming to enhance intuitiveness in how to use the product.

- To concretize the image of the car seats based on survey, we developed an Image Scale of adjectives to analyze the emotional structure.
- Using the I.R.I adjective Image Scale, which is widely used in Korea, we placed adjectives on two axes, static-dynamic and soft-hard.
